That (ending) time of year is officially here! As things are winding down to a close after all the holiday bustle, I find that a lot of the time we get caught up in all the craziness of NYE. Before we know it, we jump right into the New Year without giving ourselves the proper time to reflect on all that's happened, which may then cause any chaos or unwanted feelings to subconsciously continue when we may not necessarily want them to tag along.
Before you ring in the New Year with your significant others, peeps, family, or even with your dog and cozy blanket-- I encourage you to just sit with yourselves. Use the time to mull over all that's happened and truly reflect on your accomplishments, experiences, events, etc. (both the great and not so great). Acknowledge and honor what worked and maybe what didn't, and how each and every experience has taught you a little more about yourself.
For me, 2015 has been a year full of major ups+downs. Quitting my first 'real' job, taking the plunge to begin the journey towards my dream career, mourning the loss of a parent, encompassing the love of new friends, noticing the drifting away of others.
Things happen. Sometimes it can get pretty darn shitty. But on the other hand, life can also be absolutely amazing. And its those exact experiences we have that teach us more about ourselves and how to be the best person we can possibly be. I do believe everything happens for a reason, and what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger.
I invite you to take a moment, grab a notebook& pen, and a glass of whatever your preference (bonus if you get right on up and make this turmeric milk!), throw on some tunes and just write. Write down what you've been proud of, hardships, goals you've achieved, etc. Revel in that. Then, make a list of some things you'd like to tackle in 2016. Make it realistic. Make it fabulous. Be true to yourself.
I think you'll be surprised at what you're capable of.
And now for the drinking pleasure! I know all of us are thinking champagne and bubbly for tomorrow, but please do yourself a favor and give yourself some loving before you reek havoc on your liver!
As mentioned before, turmeric is an amazing spice that's incredibly anti-inflammatory, and is a great option to give your immune system a boost before you indulge in late night celebrations. This milk is very warm and calming on the body-- perfect for reflecting, or as we wind down at the end of the day.
Turmeric Milk (Vegan + GF)
2 C. almond or coconut milk
1 tsp turmeric
1 tsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp honey or maple syrup
1 tsp coconut oil (optional)
pinch of black pepper (this enhances the turmeric)
Directions: Pour milk into a sauce pan along with the rest of ingredients. Heat on medium/low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Note: If you'd like to make it more 'latte-esque,' you could throw the heated milk into a blender for about a minute. I have a hand held milk foamer, which also works great! Sprinkle some cinnamon on top to add a little extra spice!
Wishing everyone a happy& healthy 2016. Cheers!
