If you're anything like me, there's almost always a time in the day for sweets. As my brother carries the nick-name "Sweet Tooth Tate" by his closest friends, and with my Mom & Dad almost always saving room for dessert, sometimes I wonder if this is hereditary. Regardless of the factor, you can assume that this post came from one of those many frequent sugar cravings!
Though I do believe there's a time and place for warm and gooey chocolate cake with a hefty scoop of vanilla ice cream on top, having it as a part of an every day routine is just not realistic, especially if we want to maintain an overall healthy lifestyle. If you're a fellow sweet toother and love to satisfy that craving, it doesn't mean you have to succumb to putting new holes into your belt. Whew! Instead, take it as a way to feed your cravings with creativity!
What exactly do I mean by this? Personally, my natural desire for more sweets has caused me to become a lot more experimental in the kitchen, testing different ingredients and turning whole, plant-based foods into delicious treats! These energy balls or 'bliss balls' as they've been coined, are basically your uber-healthy granola/protein bar made from scratch! Every few weeks, I typically try and make a large batch of these or something similar so that when the mid-afternoon or after-dinner sweet tooth makes its way forth, I can quickly squash that craving with something that is delicious yet still has a good dose of nutrition.
Cool! But why don't I just buy some chocolatey granola or snack bars at the grocery store?
Sure it's a quick fix when you're in a pinch, but many of these granola or protein bars are filled with processed ingredients, added sugars, binders, and artificial flavors. Although these may take all of 10 minutes of your day to prepare, it'll be so much more satisfying in the long run, promise! You'll have piece of mind knowing that you were the creator of their goodness; their nutrient density, taste, size, and flavor, all while saving some cash in the end.
If that's not enough to persuade you yet, just wait 'till you read the benefits of the ingredients. These balls are infused with Berry Bliss Protein Powder from Philosophie to give it them a greater dose of muscle building power, and a boost of Vitamin C, thanks to the inclusion of the superfood camu-camu. The raspberry flavor blends quite nicely with the anti-oxidant and fiber-rich cacao powder, giving them that hint of raspberry chocolate truffle goodness. Oh yeah. Other top notch ingredients such as oats and chia seeds provide satiating protein and fiber, while the coconut oil provides anti-inflammatory properties and good quality fat.
Even Charlie's intrigued.

1 tsp maca powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon
